“Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride.” ~John F. Kennedy
Here at BikeTown we couldn’t agree more. We love riding our bikes and want to help as many people as we can love riding their bikes, too.
Every few weeks or so, we are going to put an employee pick on the blog. One of us will pick an item at BikeTown that we particularly like and let you know why it is a favorite.
Kelly's first employee pick is the CamelBak water bottle. CamelBak has taken its bite-valve system and put it on a water bottle. It fits in a water bottle cage and is also easily taken in the car, to the gym, around town, etc. It is also great for kids. It is big enough that mom or dad is not constantly refilling it, and the bite-valve helps keep it from spilling. Another big plus is that it is extremely tough (Kelly knows this because all of her young children use them) and dishwasher safe. Stop by and check them out. They are one of those items that once you use them, you'll find that they are indispensable. They also come in lots of fun colors! They would make a fun stocking stuffer for someone.
All right, y'all - the time trial is being moved to Sunday, January 6 at 2:00pm. As that date gets closer, check back on the blog for more details. Enjoy the Christmas season and get out on your bike and ride!
Well, folks - the weather sure is dreary! Enjoy some time curled up by a fire watching the Cowboys because the rain we got last night means the Buck Creek Trails Time Trial Stage 2 is postponed. The trail is wet and muddy and we sure don't want to make it a mess for all those who volunteer to maintain it. Right now, plan on coming out for Stage 2 next Sunday afternoon, December 16. The date is changed, but everything else stays the same. Hope to see everyone next week. Until then stay dry and warm!
Remember - this Sunday afternoon is the Buck Creek Trails Time Trial Stage 2! Come on out to the trails and join us in testing ourselves against the course. The time trial will start at 2:00 so be there a little early to register and warm up. Remember, there is no fee - it's free! Bring the kids again. After the time trial is over they will have their own race in and around the parking area. So, once again - please park outside the trail entrance.
It's Christmas season and several of the time trial organizers have commitments shortly after the event, so there will not be a cook-out this time around. However, there will be Gatorade and some holiday goodies for the taking.
Looking at the weather forecast, it seems that we have a chance of rain on Sunday. If it is raining, the time trial will be canceled. As we all know, riding on the trails when they are wet really messes them up and makes a lot of work for those who maintain the trails. If the weather is questionable, check the blog. We'll post an announcement on whether it's a go or not.
Have a great weekend and we're excited about seeing you at the trails on Sunday!

Brrr! The wind was nippy this morning when I went out to get a little exercise. Abilene is not exactly the Arctic Circle, but about 15 minutes after I left the house I was wishing I had worn my warmer gloves and taller socks. (My socks didn't quite stay in contact with my tights this morning so I had a very pink, cold band of skin just above my ankles by the time I got back home.) I enjoyed my time out this morning, but was a little chilled from the wind within just a few minutes. There's nothing quite like a little wind and cold to make you uncomfortable on your morning ride, run, walk, whatever it is you are doing. I think I'll check the wind-chill a little better tomorrow and choose my gear accordingly!
Despite this morning's chill, we have had amazing weather so far this fall. There have been plenty of chances to get in some good rides. However, it looks like the colder weather is finally heading our way. Don't let that stop you from going out for a spin! Come on in to BikeTown and see what we have in cold weather gear. Leg warmers, arm warmers, long-sleeve jerseys, tights, socks, gloves, balaclavas, you name it...we have it. Let us help you continue to enjoy riding your bike - even in the cold. Happy cycling!
Congratulations to all those who rode in the Habitat for Humanity ride up Steamboat last weekend. You supported a good cause and, hopefully, had a great ride in the beautiful weather. Some favorite cyclists of ours sent us some pictures of their experience so we thought we'd share.
Joni, Carey, and Patrice decided they would try to tame the beast at the ride up Steamboat Mountain. Great job, girls!
Along the way they got a little encouragement from Carey's husband. He had written their names on the pavement to help them get through those last few miles. What a great guy!
If there is anyone else out there that has some pictures of a great ride or event, send it our way and we'll see what we can do about getting it published. Make sure you tell us all about the picture: who, what, when, where, why, etc. Here's our email: biketownabilene@yahoo.com (There is also a link at the bottom of the blog.)
Enjoy the gorgeous weather while it lasts and happy cycling!
For those of you who want to find out a little bit more about how to use and take care of your bicycle, this workshop is for you! It will be held at BikeTown on Saturday, November 3, from 9:00 -10:00 am. Coffee and a little breakfast snack will be provided. There is a small fee of $10 per participant to cover the cost of some items you will be using during the workshop. There are only a few spots left, so contact us soon by email or phone to get your name on the list. When we fill all the spots we will start a waiting list and let those people get first chance at the next workshop.
This Sunday, October 28th, make plans to be at Buck Creek Trails for an off-road time trial. Buck Creek Trails is located on East Lake Road just across the street from the water treatment plant. The trails are on the east side of the road. Plan on parking outside of the fence since the normal parking area will be in use for other activities during the time trial. Food and drinks will be provided free of charge. Bring the kids with you and load their bikes up, too. When the time trial is drawing to a close, a Kid's Kup will be held in the parking area. The time trial fun starts at 2:00 pm with the Kids Kup starting around 3:00 or 3:30, depending on how many riders are still out on the trail. (If mountain biking isn't your thing, bring your road bike and enjoy a spin out around Ft. Phantom Lake.) Come on out, enjoy riding the trails in the beautiful weather, and see if you can post the best time at Buck Creek this year. Hope to see ya there and remember - helmets are required.
Good luck to everyone riding or running in the Habitat for Humanity run/ride on Saturday!

Here at BikeTown we couldn’t agree more. We love riding our bikes and want to help as many people as we can love riding their bikes, too.
If you already love riding your bike, stop by our store and see what gear we have to make that love affair with your bike even better.
If you are frustrated with your ride, bring it in and let us help you fix it up. Our bike technicians have over 100 years of experience among them. We will make you happy with your bike and how it rides.
If your bike has been sitting in the garage for years and is calling for you to take it for a spin, ride it by us first so that we can make sure it is safe and ready to ride.
If you are just starting out with the whole bicycle thing, come talk to us. We love to help start people down the road of cycling enjoyment.
We really just love riding our bikes and want you to come along for the ride!
